Genuine Tips For Newbies
2008 August 3
Recently there was a hot discussion going on in wahm. One person asked me to give him/her some tips on successful freelancing for newbies. So here are they,
- Patience – In every freelancer site, it is bit difficult to get a job. So be patient.
- Marketing – How can you showcase your skills WITHOUT a good marketing campaign? It’s NOT about seeing/applying/attending interview/getting the job in the cyber world. So market your skills using blogs, websites etc.
- Keep Learning – If you don’t, the next guy would overcome you sooner than you expect.
- NEVER think about data entry jobs – You won’t save a penny. There are plenty of work out there to pay you more.
- Work Hard – It’s easy to think “I can sit at home and earn handsomely”. The fact is, “it’s very difficult to get a regular online assignment than an offline job/business”. However, once you started earning through an online assignment/job, the money that you could earn is limited only by your hard work.
Wish You All The Best…
Have A Fabulous Time.

Pothi, this is a great blog and I commend you for your efforts. I’m currently working with LuckyWeaver and am very happy with the results.
One comment that I’d like to make regarding this post, “Genuine Tips For Newbies”: I am constantly shocked and surprised at how little effort is put into the provider’s pages on systems like oDesk. Many of the provider’s resume’s and portfolios are very slim on information that would help a buyer like me want to choose them over another provider. Also, many of them have poor grammar and spelling.
I am not an expert with grammar or spelling which is why I ask for help with my writing. I think each provider / consultant should put in as much time as needed (directly or asking others) to making an amazing “About Me” page with a stellar resume and portfolio.
Honestly, I would think there would be a huge market for someone to offer services to write and/or proof a wonderful “about me”, resume, and portfolio page for other providers.
Thank you Nifty-Chicken,
I’m glad to hear that you’re very happy with the results.
It’s true that very little has been given by providers about themselves with a narrow portfolios. You’ve given me wonderful idea where opportunities are yet to be tapped upon.
Once again, thank you so much for your time to comment on my blog.
